With any new installation, a line of sight (LOS) survey is the initial survey undertaken that determines whether you have a clear line of sight free from any obstacles i.e. buildings and trees that will cause interference.
When carrying out a line of sight for a microwave system, the following steps are required:
- Select the desired sites for radio equipment and tower/building locations that are in line of sight of each other.
- Determine the required operational frequency band, considering all radio frequency interference, environmental challenges and legal restraints that are present.
- Engineering of path profiles and all calculations to determine the required heights and propagation reliability.
- Configuration of all radio equipment with the aim to achieve the fade margins that were set out in the link budget.
- Installation of the project.
- Alignment and thorough testing to mitigate any issues that may occur during installation. Installation and project sign off from the customer.
The LOS survey is ideal for clients that require a point to point link providing data and voice, such as network providers and telecoms businesses. It effectively determines whether a microwave radio link or system can be installed for this application.
Not only does our LOS survey provide the client with this information, it also includes:
- Health and safety aspects of the project i.e. safe to climb certification, asbestos checks etc.
- Safe access and data egress, keys etc.
- Detailed power requirements for the project.
- Amount of rack space required for this service.
